The Mystery of the Holy Communion
By God’s mercy, I received light on this matter, starting from ‘The Doctrine of the Power of Resurrection – Apostle Joshua Selman’ to this morning (20th of May) when I was led to read Hebrews 1. We will begin with Hebrews 1 verse 5. Hebrews 1:5 [5]For God never said to any angel what he said to Jesus: “You are my Son. Today I have become your Father. ”God also said, “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son.” Here we see that Jesus is greater than all angels as most of us already know but the focus on one the Bolden text which is an excerpt from 2 Samuel 7:14 [14]I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands.
Now since this verse was referred to by Hebrews 1:5 we know that the Son referred to here is Jesus Christ. Preceding verses in the Chapter (2 Samuel 7) tells us about how God told David about an Offspring that will reign forever. Now, question; since Jesus did suffer to from the Hands of men, does this mean he actually did wrong? Answer is No, He didn’t do any wrong, so how did all that happen to him? Answer shortly, first let’s take a look at this scripture, John 8:59 [59]At that point they picked up stones to throw at him. But Jesus was hidden from them and left the Temple. And another, John 10:39 [39]Once again they tried to arrest him, but he got away and left them.
Many times they tried but they could not then suddenly!… AFTER THE LAST SUPPER THE HOUR CAME. Coincidence? Definitely not!. As we recall, 2 Samuel 7:14 [14]I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. It happened through the fact that Christ Jesus became sin. 2 Corinthians 5:21 [21]For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
And so just as Christ Jesus bore our sin through the Holy Communion/ Last supper, we also through the Holy communion bear the righteousness of God and so Eternal life through faith. John 6:53-56 [53]So Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you. [54]But anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person at the last day. [55]For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. [56]Anyone who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.
And so a warning! 1 Corinthians 11:27-29 [27]So anyone who eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord unworthily is guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.
[28]That is why you should examine yourself before eating the bread and drinking the cup. [29]For if you eat the bread or drink the cup without honoring the body of Christ, you are eating and drinking God’s judgment upon yourself. In conclusion, we must dine with Lord recognizing that it is actually His Body and His Blood. So that we do not drink judgment on ourselves. The Holy communion is sacred. We must hallow it because of He who we dine with!🪔🧎🏾♂️
