The Testimony of Enoch – Apostle Joshua Selman (My Jottings)

The Testimony of Enoch by Apostle Joshua Selman- a summary

In this page, you will find an excerpt from a sermon preached at Koinonia Abuja on the July 3, 2022 by Apostle Joshua Selman. God bless you as you pay read. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Starting Text: HEBREWS 6:12 — “so that you will not be [spiritually] sluggish, but [will instead be] imitators of those who through faith [lean on God with absolute trust and confidence in Him and in His power] and by patient endurance [even when suffering] are [now] inheriting the promises.” (Amplified Version)

We must follow the good examples of those who have gone before us, the Patriarchs of Faith based on the particular dimension in God that we want to see in our lives. For example, If we are very much interested in the Blessings of God— the transgenerational blessings that a man can get in God through Jesus Christ, then we must study the story of Abraham. If we are trying to see what role or how we can activate the Favor of God upon our lives, then we must look at the Life of Esther. If it is how to get encounters then we must look at the life of Jacob, and if we are doing a case study on deliverance, then we must not be ignorant of the great deliverance that was wrought by God for the People of Israel from the Land of Egypt

But the focus of this sermon is the Life of Enoch— the testimony of Enoch, what example did He live for us to follow? Genesis 5:18-24 — “18 When Jared had lived 162 years, he became the father of Enoch. 19 After he became the father of Enoch, Jared lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 20 Altogether, Jared lived a total of 962 years, and then he died. 21 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. 22 After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. 23 Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. 24 Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away. ” (NIV).

Facts about Enoch

  • Enoch did not taste natural death. (Genesis 5:24 —“Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.”)
  • He had a Testimony that He pleased God (Hebrews 11:5 “By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.”)
  • He was a Prophet, He could prophesy (Jude 1:14 “Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied about them: “See, the Lord is coming with thousands upon thousands of his holy ones”)

Questions to Help us follow the example of Enoch

  1. What does it mean and what does it take to walk with God?

“13 Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them. 14 Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” 15 When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there. The Rich and the Kingdom of God 16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” 17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” 18 “Which ones?” he inquired. Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’” 20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” 21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” 22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. 23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” 25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?” 26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” 27 Peter answered him, “We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?” 28 Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. 29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.” — Matthew 19:3-29. (NIV)

To walk with God means that God becomes the absolute priority in a man’s Life and for a man’s destiny. It means to Love God and to walk in Total Surrender (Matthew 22:35-40 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.””) Mark 3:13-14. Anything that makes you love “it” more than God is idolatry. The highest biblical index for measuring love is Sacrifice. You must not have any definition of your life outside of the name of JESUS. NOTE: IT IS POSSIBLE TO WORK FOR GOD AND NOT WALK WITH GOD, through dead works; works done outside the Spirit and the Truth. There must be one King. Those that will please God must love Him. This can be done by obeying God’s commandment and also by not loving the world. Without passion, there will be a sudden emergence of excuses. You will always have time for what you love; where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. We must learn to draw our comfort from His Presence, THIS IS KOINONIA, it is INTIMACY. You will know your God or god by the frequency of your visitation to Him or to it.

  2. What does it mean and what does it take to please God?

“6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe.” John 1:6-7. (NIV). “34 “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.” John 4:34. (NIV). When you are actively involved in being a witness with all you have and are able to reach men and bring them to Christ, then you have pleased God. You can become a man pleasing God if you LET YOU LIGHT SHINE. All our philosophies and ideologies must be in the agenda of Kingdom come. Our entire Faith is not complicated. First, Jesus, then a conviction and then we receive the Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth even through Men of God and then we gain a good standing in our Faith. EVERYTHING MUST BE DONE WITH RESPECT TO KINGDOM COME. We must be Beacons of Light to glorify Jesus and reveal him in order to please God. You do not have to be behind a pulpit to be a witness or please God.

May God help us to reign as Kings and Priest unto Him, in balance to the Glory of God and to the advancement of His Kingdom. In Jesus Name, Amen. I hope you enjoyed the summary, comment and like the post and don’t forget to share, God bless you all. Amen
