When Next You Feel Far From God, Do This!

Have you ever found yourself in the gathering of the brethren glancing around as people kept basking in His presence, but you find yourself struggling to behold Him? Or have you lacked the zeal to pray, study or do anything related to God? All you just want to do is to pace around.

Do you feel far from God because each time you try to have your quiet time you feel this sadness like you are alone and you end up dropping it all? If this is you right now or you’ve experienced it in time last, you’re not alone and this doesn’t make you a sinner, it happens.

Often, I find myself so drawn away from God that I don’t feel like talking to God, all I just do is stay in the comfort of my room sleeping, crying, eating, seeing a movie, etc However, when people see me out there they will never know the struggle I am going through as they kept calling “Mama/ Papa”, “Fire”, “WOG/ Man of God”, etc.

When they keep calling these names, all I could say in my mind was ‘I wish you know what I’m battling with in my secret place and it’s not what you think.’ Please, if you are reading this right now, do not be carried away by these names. You’re falling, yet men keep praising and applauding you! If you get overwhelmed or carried away by it, you might never be able to stand again except grace finds you.

However, I have been able to overcome those phases whenever I find myself there. How do I do it? Read on as I show you the 8 Tips that have always helped me.

Don’t be overwhelmed by your feelings

These feelings can be dangerous. It’s during this period that different thoughts of how you’ve failed God begins to come to you, how you’ve not grown ever since you started the walk, how God disappointed you, etc.

You must discard these feelings when it comes, or else they’ll take you farther away.

Acknowledge that you’re not alone

When you find yourself drifting, you might feel like the biggest loser or as if you’re the only one. However, remember that you’re not alone.

1 Corinthians 10:13 — “13 No temptation [regardless of its source] has overtaken or enticed you that is not common to human experience [nor is any temptation unusual or beyond human resistance]; but God is faithful [to His word—He is compassionate and trustworthy], and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability [to resist], but along with the temptation He [has in the past and is now and] will [always] provide the way out as well, so that you will be able to endure it [without yielding, and will overcome temptation with joy].” (AMP). The above is an indicator that there were others like David, Nebuchadnezzar, the Prodigal son, etc

So do the needful as they did, without making the mistakes they made.

Run back to Him

When you’re trying to overcome prayerlessness, you do that by praying. So go back to Him, you can pour out your hearts to Him while you cry, you can choose to write a letter to Him expressing your feelings, leave worship songs playing to connect your heart and charge up the atmosphere. However, humble yourselves and acknowledge your helplessness as the scripture says that only the humbled shall be honoured.

Go back to the Word

There are so many promises in the Bible that assure us of God’s Faithfulness towards us. Isaiah 49:14-15 — “14 But Zion (Jerusalem in captivity) said, “The Lord has abandoned me, And my Lord has forgotten me.” 15 [The Lord answered] “Can a woman forget her nursing child And have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, but I will not forget you.) promised that He’ll never leaves us not forsake us.” (AMP),  Romans 8:38-39 — “38 For I am convinced [and continue to be convinced—beyond any doubt] that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the [unlimited] love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (AMP).

So let the promises from the scripture brighten your path. You can even pray with those scriptures.

Listen to the Sermon

When you’re facing those moments, leave Apostle Joshua Selman, Apostle Orokpo, Apostle Osayi’s etc sermon playing or you can choose to go for a Praying audio series. Let it be repeated with your hearts open. A change will be birthed.

Seek Help

You must be accountable to someone. So when you’re faced with such times, such a person would be able to pray with you, encourage you, hold your hands through, etc. This is why having someone aid you on your spiritual journey is crucial.

Pray

You’ve drifted, so praying might not want to suit you, but there are ways around it. You can sit in silence, let your heart do the talking or engage the tool of dialogue, this is where you communicate with Him like you’re conversing with your best Friend and you can also choose to pray through the scripture or a prayer walk. The dialogue method works best for me when I find myself living those moments.

CONCLUSION

Drifting from God is real, but it doesn’t make you a bad person or an ingrate. The devil is tricky, he wants you to run away totally, but do not give in to his tricks. Combat it with these tips I’ve shared with you.

What other ways do you think can be adopted to overcome it?
