Who Is Your Master?

“Tender your resignation letter with the Secretary as soon as you’re free with what you are doing.” Mr. Jay said without a care in the world as he squared his shoulder walking out of his room.

I was still lost in thoughts with my forehead in contact with my carton-coloured rectangular table when I heard my name.

I jumped on my feet with my arms to my back like a soldier ready to take the command to head to the war front.

“I heard Mr.Jay told you to tender your resignation before the end of the day. What authority does he think he has?” Mr. Jay Younger’s brother asked.

“Well, you drop nothing, okay? You have been a great worker and I’m not ready to lose you.” He said with a final tone as he took the file from my table strolling to his cubicle opposite mine.

Can you imagine that?

A company headed by 2 different boards of directors? Mr. A gives an order in the morning, and then Mr. B sauntered in mid-day with a different order.

What happens? You’ll be torn between deciding because both of them are your Master. However, what is hidden from you is that one is surely superior to the other.

Hence, You’re to carry out the order of the Superior one.

See Matthew 6:24 — “24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon [money, possessions, fame, status, or whatever is valued more than the Lord].” (AMP). So why are you still torn between two masters? Why have you been going against the order of the Superior Master?

Whatever you esteem above God is another master striving or competing with the place of God. So what have you been prioritizing over God? Could it be your friends, phone, outing, money, fame, food, academics, business, career, children, etc? If it takes your gaze away from Abba, then it is your second master.

You fixed 9 PM as your quiet time, but a visit or a gist from your friend makes you neglect that hour. Why can’t they wait till you’re done with your devotion to create time for them?

That favourite TV show, Movie Series & Games has taken the place of your quiet time, yet you say God understands.

God shouldn’t be what you squeeze into a bag already filled with loads, You should not just create a little space for Him to hang. You want to burn for God, yet, you still can’t leave out every bit of worldliness and you call it, enjoying life.

Would you stop kidding?

God wants to take all of your being, in totality. He wants to be the Driver. He doesn’t want you to drive yourself, but leave the wheel to Him when you can navigate it no more.

So can you ask yourself today. What am I devoted to? What do I prioritize? When I get stuck, who/what comes to mind first? Whatever your answer is, if it’s outside GOD, make amend today.

When you decide to serve two masters;

  • You’ll struggle with obedience,
  • You’ll have a divided mind,
  • Peace will be absent,
  • You’ll please the wrong masters,
  • You’ll keep playing the game of probability.

Do you know that the reason why you’re often torn between choosing the master to serve is that “You are taking the Grace of God for granted.” You are of the school of thought that “God understands, So He will forgive and excuse me this time.” Really!

What does the Scripture say about that?

Romans 6:1-2 “What shall we say [to all this]? Should we continue in sin and practice sin as a habit so that [God’s gift of] grace may increase and overflow? 2 Certainly not! How can we, the very ones who died to sin, continue to live in it any longer?” (AMP). Can you see it? As a believer, Your only Master should be Christ, stop giving yourself to anything outside HIM or HIS WILL.

Here is another scenario

You’re driving a car headed to a well-acquainted location and the person sitting beside you knows where you are headed as well. All of a sudden, she told you not to take that route, but to take another. You refuse to take the route she wants and she doesn’t let you drive as she struggles the wheel with you. The result is that you both will be stuck because you’ve both become Masters (Drivers) of the vehicle.

The above implies that what you’re putting above God is dragging the wheel with Him and it has been hindering your spiritual growth. Weigh your options today, with which of the masters do you stand a better chance? No one serves Jesus and is ever put to shame. Thus, Jesus is the best Master.

Have you been struggling with your walk with God? Write out what has been competing for your attention with Him. Make amend while you can.

I pray that the Grace to choose Abba above all else is released unto you in Jesus’ name. Amen
